extiles, fabric on netting and cut lace:
I started making these a long time ago and then put them away. I looked for them a few months ago because I wanted to plan a project for my next trip, something to use up those hours while flying. I reconnected with making of the stitched pieces. I’m surprised how many I’ve made since then.

Flame and Kitty and tree are on net.  I made them based on my understanding of Carrickmacross, an Irish lace.  The net is the base.  The lightweight cotton fabric, batiste, is placed on the net. Then a cotton string (cordonnet) is placed on the edge of the motif.  Baste the string onto the design, then cut the batiste without cutting through to the net, then whipstitch a fine cotton thread around the string and voila, lace.

Hot springs is cut lace. This picture is based on a sketch from Wilbur Hot Springs. I cut a hole and buttonhole edge it by hand. Occasionally, I’ll dye and paint, stitch and quilt by hand to replicate one of my  paintings.
